JULIE BALL - PRESIDENT

I started my career in the Insurance industry in Vancouver, as a policy writer, automobile underwriter and claims adjuster. After being transferred to Calgary, I realized the Oil industry was the place to be. I worked for Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas in Human Resources, leaving as Manager, Employee Relations to join Petro-Canada and filled many roles including talent acquisition, total compensation, human resource planning, diversity and dispute resolution. I served on the Board of Calgary’s largest immigrant serving agency for 8 years, being its Board chair for three. Upon retiring from the oil industry, I consulted in organization design, business process mapping, policy development, board governance. I initiated Calgary Chamber’s Talent Pool and as its Executive Director worked with member organizations to solve and support their staffing needs.

I moved to Champagne in 2017 where I am enjoying retirement and being part of the Champagne Board.




 

DENNIS ELIAS - VICE PRESIDENT

  • Independent engagement consultant for power infrastructure projects

  • Executive and management positions at several natural gas and power companies, including ENMAX (12 years)

    • lead tactical and strategic consultation, engagement, and communication activities for all proposed energy projects

  • Significant communication, regulatory, strategic planning, consulting, budget management, and project management expertise

  • Regularly engaged with a broad range of stakeholders including media, corporate executives, City Councillors, business leaders, construction contractors, utility commissions, and indigenous communities

  • Disaster recovery liaison officer at ENMAX and member of Canadian Electricity Association Indigenous Task Group

  • Heavily involved with Champagne Facilities Group for the past year, as Building 1 Liaison. For all owners, did extensive studies on power consumption to find cost savings and add value to their investment.

     

DEB NICKERSON - TREASURER

July 22, 2021

Business owner since 1994 providing concierge accounting services to over 100 entities ranging from real estate, oil & gas, investing, research & development, engineering, manufacturing, and professional services businesses.  Concierge accounting services include timely, organized, and accurate financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, auditing, banking, payroll, human resources, due diligence, and government reporting.  Have maintained a multi-generational clientele for the past 27 years.  An understanding of the importance of timely and accurate reporting as well as the ability to provide oversight regarding budgets, insurance, reserve fund, and utilities on behalf of the board and owners.  Previously a Champagne board member 2015 to 2017.

Semi-retired in 2012.

JANE HURLEY, SECRETARY

January, 2022

In 2019, I moved to Champagne Condos and have been delighted to build relationships with my new neighbors. Through my work with the Grounds Committee, I shared my skills as a gardener to improve our property and contribute to a positive sense of community. I look forward to using my skills to support the board and further our goal of controlling costs and increasing value for Champagne owners. 
Professionally, I joined the Calgary Public Library in 1990 and am presently a Library Experience Supervisor. My skill set includes the ability to work in a multigenerational, diverse environment, team building, training others, researching, and document writing. I use Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams regularly in my work. Prior to working at the Calgary Public Library, I worked for the University of Calgary in their Biology department for five years. I moved to Calgary in 1981 after completing my BSc in Biology from Memorial University.
In my personal life, I enjoy traveling, the outdoors, and birdwatching. I have three grown children and four grandchildren. I believe in the mission of the board and am eager to work to support the needs of our community. 
 

 

BUD ALEXANDER, DIRECTOR &COMMUNICATIONS

I am a retired professional accountant. I worked for the Canadian Pacific group of Companies for 40 years ending my career as the Vice-President Audit Services. My wife, Kathy and I moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1996 after living in Toronto, Winnipeg and Saskatoon. We moved to Champagne from Evergreen in July, 2017.

I have been a resident of Champagne since August, 2019 and love living here. Before moving to Calgary in 2016, I lived in Vancouver, for the majority of my life except for 10 years spent in Montreal. I have raised two beautiful daughters and now have two amazing grandchildren, all of whom also live in Calgary. 

​

Before retiring to move to Calgary, I taught in a high school for seventeen years. As a teacher I developed a love for math and have turned it into an online tutoring business which keeps me busy.

DON PARKIN - PRESIDENT

Here is a very brief history of Don's volunteer and professional experience:

  • 1976 – 1978, Class President of SAIT Avionics Student’s Society. Graduated with Honours.

  • 1981 – 1993, New Hope Community Church member, Sunday school teacher, choir member and director, band director and building committee member.

  • 1989 – 1992, Calgary Chapter Canadian Celiac Association Board member, Vice President and Fund-Raising Chair.

  • 1992 – 1998, 162nd Willowridge Scouts, Parent Committee member and Cub/Scout leader.

  • 1993 – 1996, SAIT Avionics Advisory Committee member.

  • 1999 – 2002, Willowridge Community Board member, 2nd VP, Membership Director and bingo/casino volunteer.

  • 1998 – 2004, Allegiance Elite Drum & Bugle Corps, parent volunteer, semi truck driver, Bingo Chair, Board member and President.

  • 2005 – 2011, Calgary Stampede Promotion Committee volunteer, mobile stage driver and Mobile Stage Subcommittee Chair.

  • 2011 – 2012, Calgary Stampede Art Committee volunteer.

  • 1996 – Present, Stampede Parade Street Marshal.

 

After leaving the U of C Astrophysics program as an undergrad with no hope of employment in Canada, Don moved on to his second love, aviation and electronics.

He started his professional career in aviation as an Avionics Technician working on more than 60 aircraft types in various parts of Canada and the USA. Gradually moved up in various companies fulfilling a variety of management positions. Don and his partners started Avmax Group Inc. in 1996, where he was Executive Vice President, Officer, Director, Board member and minority shareholder. Avmax is recognized worldwide as a leader in the regional aircraft industry and the largest owner/lessor of Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft with over 650 employees globally. Don finished his aviation career leasing regional size turboprops and jets worldwide.

Don retired from the Avmax Group of Companies in June 2016 and is now fully retired.




 

BUD ALEXANDER - TREASURER

JAYE PYE, SECRETARY

October 30, 2020

Jaye and his wife and daughter moved into Champagne building four July 2018.

They are new to the building but have been living in Quarry Park since 2010. They love the community, in particular, the access to the river pathway and the close proximity to the dog park, which their Chocolate Lab would like to spend all of her time. Both Jaye and his wife love to run and ride their bikes. Quarry Park, and in particular, Champagne allows them to live the life style they have always wanted.

Jaye went to school at Mount Royal studying accounting while working at KPMG. After eight years of gruelling audit and tax work at KPMG, he has since been working as a Controller for several Not-For-Profits (NPO). Jaye is currently the Controller for Energy Safety Canada whose mission is zero injuries and zero incidents in the Canadian Oil and Gas industry. His main responsibilities in this role are to manage the finance department and annual audit, as well as the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting cycles. He's also a Part Time Controller for Western Canadian Spill Services (WCSS), an NPO, that provides spill response and support to Western Canadian energy companies. His role at WCSS requires him to produce the monthly financial statements and present the financial statements at the quarterly Board meetings.

Jaye: "I’m excited to be part of the Champagne Board of Directors and will strive to apply my passion and experience in the best interest of the Champagne community".


 

BRUCE WALLACE, Director at Large, Facilities Chair

Profile: ​Mechanical Engineer registered in Alberta. Independent business consultant operating out of Calgary, AB and Denver, CO. Working with construction and maintenance companies for the past 25 years. Previously owned and sold successful Industrial Construction company after 15 years in business.

Experience: ​Successfully built, managed and restructured multiple manufacturing, construction and commercial companies. Built and trained people on financial and cost control systems. Developed and coordinated maintenance process that significantly reduced costs. Developed and implemented mechanical maintenance manual for Condominium.

Served 8 years on Condo Board as Director of Facilities & Treasurer. Implementing realistic budgets, we reduced maintenance costs / condo fees, added new facilities & removed redundant facilities. The net effect was a significant increase in the value of condo units.


 

DAVE MARTIN, Director at Large, Grounds Chairman

Dave Martin and wife Lynne, moved into Champagne condos in June 2013 – home sweet home!

Dave is a Geophysicist, reveling in a career in geophysical processing and imaging.

After many years of technical and management responsibility with full service companies, Dave and a business partner started their own specialized geophysical processing company.

With a multi disciplined business background, Dave will endeavor to bring his good judgment to an existing board of very dedicated volunteers.

Dave and Lynne have a daughter and a son, both families live in Calgary and they have two grandsons and a granddaughter.

Dave enjoys cooking/eating, hunting, playing guitar, vacuuming (makes my wife happy) and training their Brittany.


JOANIE SHILLING - Director at Large, Chair Communications

Joanie Shilling is a born and raised Calgarian and is proud to have grown up in the energy industry.

During her career she led a variety of teams from Customer Support, Information Technology and Community Investment. She is currently serving as Vice Chair for YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, Chair of the Rosen Lake Strata, Co-Chair of the Calgary Stampede Parade Prelude Committee and Communications Chair for Champagne Condominium Corporation.

She loves to spend her spare time at the Remington YMCA, cycling and pursuing her passion for the film industry.
